Right now, this is the only rule:
Write coherently.
Does it seem that hard? That means no abuse of the caps lock key, no crazy endless WTFOMGLAMER etc...

i second this rule. we are sufficiently intelligent to realize without the aid of caplocks etc, that you are being emphatic.
script makes posts hard to read, very annoying, and in a way, incomprehensible.

It's a good rule, and it's not contradicting the first amendment, but is there a punishment for breaking said rule?

Of course there will be, but I haven't decided on it yet. It will probably depend on the specific situation.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

question: does this, by your "etc" in the first post, extend to having good grammar, punctuation, and spelling? how about using chatspeek - i.e. lol, lmao, wtf, etc? if so, then many forum members are guilty. what is your opinion on that, good sir? are you going to MSN me about this too? why yes, resentful emily appears around 2AM. not that i don't appreciate the chats, roger, but please to be having better topics than forums that i may be deserting soon. :] my personal opinion is that moderate usage of caps lock (along with chatspeek, and such) in the right places can do wonders to increasing the LULZ factor of your post. funny posts make happy cows. happy cows come from california. ;D life isn't all serious business, kids. though having completely incoherent posts tYpd lYk d1s is bad. yes. really.

etc is an abbreviation for the word "etcetera" which is a perfectly legitimate word in english.
im pretty sure lol, lmao, "etc" are all okay.
and whats this about happy cows? again. the point is to type coherently.

forgive me, i probably should have used "and so on" instead of "etc".
and happy cows refers to a commercial that airs in california. xD "good milk comes from happy cows. happy cows come from california." or something of the like. sorry about that, a bit of an unknown reference.
eh well. my essential points, i suppose, are (a) coherence is good, and (b) caps lock is not necessarily bad, at the proper time and place (considering how difficult it can be to emphasize things or communicate sarcasm on the internet, sometimes it helps a lot). that is all. :]

When trying to convey feelings through text caps lock sometimes prove to be of use when expressing anguish, anger, and utter disbelief. Oh yeah that cow commerical, I must admit they were happy before the mad cow disease
